Atmosphere is the hardest element to be captured in my photographs. Isolation and silence are some of the feelings I’d like to express in my work. Nadav Kandar’s photographs capture this atmosphere of isolation.

Joel Meyerowitz also captures this atmosphere of silence and aloneness. His photographs suggest the feeling of no people, but you can feel somebody just here minutes ago, or they should be here, but they are not.

The desolation is something I would like to develop in my own project. And the layout is also very close to the final result I would like, except there is a woman sitting on a sofa/bench and I would envisage including more of her surroundings.

Hiroshi Sugimoto’s seascapes are good examples for me. His work is about air and water, the most basic and important elements on earth. However, he represents this in a very simple and abstract way. The layout and colors are very simple as well, half and half, black and white.

All the photographs in this series feature a swimming pool. These photographs have a strange element to them: it’s as if the people in these photographs shouldn't be there? However, the neat layout and unitary style is very impressive. This is the feeling and aesthetic I would like in my own work.  The colors here also remind me of the paintings of David Hockney in someway.

After the meeting of this week, I began to think about using photographic typologies as the direction of my project. This series is a classic and famous series of photographic typologies by Bernd and Hilla Becher. Especially, the water towers above. The composition of this group of works is very consistent with my original ideas. And Dr Barry suggested me about put my works into the grid, this group of photos is also a good reference in this way.

Fontana's works have different subjects in different series. But we can't find the high degree of unity in these works. There are a lot of details in common, it's a sort of hard thing to find these, like trees, barriers and even hills in the background.

I have to say when I first saw the photos, I was shocked by the impact of the photos. This set of photos is very powerful, I did not put up all the pictures in this series if you are interested you can click the link below. This set of pictures is different from previous works in that it sacrifices some unity but adds some independent features, such as some are humorous, some are desolate and some are confusing. I think the selection of the main body of the bicycle is also very interesting. The invention of the bicycle has accompanied human beings for quite a long time. Even in today's highly developed automated transportation, the simple structure of the bicycle is still quite a part of the favourite means of transportation. This has also made bicycles ubiquitous in cities, and quite a few of them are abandoned, which makes one wonder what the story behind these bicycles is.

the TYPOLOGIST : collector of collections

There is a fair amount of referential work in this blog. From stones and pins to buildings, it's all very interesting. The subjects are very different but very visible and attractive.

When I saw this group of works, I was very surprised, because the expression method of this group of works happened to coincide with my idea in some ways. The fusion of subject and background is full of conflict but also humorous and harmonious. So, I think it is of great reference value in the fusion of classical works and modern scenes.

Unlike the previous series, this set of photographs adds modern elements to the classical sculptures. A similar idea but a completely different approach. The technical difficulty of this group of works is very high,  it is not only the processing of light but also the fitting of clothes and limbs. What is clear is that these details are handled very well in this set of works.
